Why these exist
Most tip calculators online are for diners working out 18% on a dinner check. That is a different problem from the one a bar manager has at 2am with a jar of cash and four people who worked four different shifts.
These do the operator version. They handle partial shifts, overlapping schedules, multiple counts in a night, shifts that cross midnight, and the leftover penny that makes totals not quite add up.
About that leftover penny
Split $100 three ways and each person's exact share is $33.3333. Round each one and you have paid out $99.99 — a cent has vanished. Do that twice a night, five nights a week, and your records stop reconciling.
These calculators use the largest remainder method: everyone gets the whole-cent floor of their exact share, then the leftover pennies go one at a time to whoever had the largest fraction left over. The parts always sum to the whole, exactly. It is a small thing that turns out to matter a great deal when someone is auditing you.
